Definitely one of my favorite sessions. Rivers, Pat, Scott and Brian are all fantastic musicians and a hellova lot of fun to hang with. Much of the album was recorded on a stage in a theater (formerly the Malibu Performing Arts Center) with a makeshift control room setup in the audience area where the Front of House console sits. This was not without its challenges from an engineering standpoint, but it worked really well, allowing the band to perform on stage as they would in a live concert as opposed to being isolated in various rooms of a recording studio. My buddy Andrew Scheps was the lead engineer. I was running Pro Tools and doing all the comping and editing, but later got to stand in for Andrew for several weeks while he was away. One of my favorite memories is the time Rivers challenged me to transcribe the chords to T-Pain’s then-popular, “Buy U a Drank,” … which is harder than u might thank. I passed the test and we had lots of good laughs along the way.
